Marble Falls grad Torres announces merger with The Hoop Society
Marble Falls High School graduate Chris Torres continues to make a name for himself in the world of select basketball.
Torres, a 2011 graduate, merged his Air Time Elite with The Hoop Society. It’s a group that had been researching who and which programs mirrored what it believes in and how it tries to give families a valuable assist to help their athletes play college basketball, he said.
“I was approached by a large program that has been wanting to expand to central Texas for some time,” he said. “Their ideals didn’t line up until they came across me. They have accumulated over 150 offers the past three years for their players in Houston.”
Torres is the director of the Austin and San Antonio area, and this merger allows him to do what he enjoys most — coach.
“It’s my job to build the entire market,” he said. “I’m the head coach of the 17-and-under girls team. Next year we anticipate having multiple girls teams. We do have a tryout process. A lot of girls have been with them since the fourth grade.”
Torres’ team includes Burnet players Sydney Lough, Sierra Schaefer, Cydney Robison, Aubrey Mathews and Kloe Shannon.
“I had several people reach out who didn’t realize what I was able to do,” he said. “Once people started to see I had girls from all over the state, I got a lot of interest from others across the state.”
Recently he coached one of the Houston teams that finished 4-0 at the Clash of the Clubs tournament at NRG Stadium May 17-18.
Athletes on The Hoop Society rosters received offers came from powerhouses South Carolina, Arizona State, Kansas State, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. They include Macy Spencer to UNLV and Tobi Ademuwagun to Penn. Heather Baymon signed to play for Texas State and Timya Grice signed to play for Arizona State in November 2023 and Nicki Polocheck signed to play for the University of California at San Diego.
“The list goes on and on,” Torres said. “Players look for opportunities, and we have the proof. We know what to do as far as finding players their next home.”
As for which apparel tour The Hoop Factory will join, Torres said the group is exploring options.
“There are a few deals on the table,” he said. “They’ve done so well as independent teams that have knocked off sponsored teams. That’s how they got in the ranks so fast.”
